CHARITY APPEAL PRESENTATION
Bro. Martyn presented a cheque for £7500 to
Cheyenne Smith for Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall,
Cheyenne said "We are really grateful for this splendid donation to Sue Ryder Care, and thank the Buffs for all the work they did on our behalf last year."
In considering a charity to nominate for support in the Peterborough Province in 2023, I have taken a number of things into account. I have dismissed my first choice because on taking a closer look I found that in 2020 it wasted 40% of its charitable income on litigation in the courts and tribunals (note here for Grand Lodge perhaps).
I looked at several ‘local’ charities but they were all too local, and I am conscious that this should be directed at something that is pertinent to the whole Province.
I have settled on Sue Ryder Care for several reasons : -
· Sue Ryder provides palliative care and end of life support throughout the UK
· They provide help for families of people approaching the end of life
· They provide neurological care
· They maintain hospices throughout the UK, including Thorpe Hall in Peterborough
· They campaign at Government Level for increased public funding and support
· I am confident that the Province will receive administrative assistance with its fundraising throughout 2023 – helping us to help them.
I have asked one of the team at Sue Ryder in Peterborough is she would be able to speak to us about the charity, and I hope to set this up some time in the spring.
Thank you for making me your PGP in 2023 – I shall do all I can to meet your expectations and make the year a good one for the Province. I thank also the Bro’s and Minor Lodges who have already pledged their support for my chosen charity and hope that the Peterborough Province will support me in the choice of Sue Ryder Care as the PGP’s charity for 2023.
